The largest estuary in Europe awaits you during your next vacation in Nouvelle Aquitaine. Select your campsite near the Gironde estuary: from Soulac sur Mer to Bordeaux, from Blaye’s citadel to Royan.

Discover the Gironde estuary’s left bank: sea resorts, ocean beaches and Medoc’s vineyards.

Stay at a campsite near the ocean in Soulac sur Mer, Grayan-et-l'Hôpital, Vendays, Hourtin, Carcans or Lacanau and explore the Gironde estuary’s left bank from Macau to Pointe de Grave and its eponymous lighthouse. Vineyards are a great field for your hikes, strolls, and for horse or bicycle riding. You’ll also have the opportunity to taste some of the most famous wines of Bordeaux.

You can cross the Gironde estuary from Lamarque, Pauillac, Port Médoc or Le Verdon sur Mer harbours on the left bank.

The Gironde estuary: overflowing marvels from bec d’Ambès to Bordeaux and Cordouan lighthouse.

The Gironde estuary will unveil all its treasures and secrets from a boat. Start with the islands of course – the ones you can visit such as île Nouvelle, a haven for birds, île de Patiras and its lighthouse, or île Margaux and its vineyard – but also the ones you can only see from the river : île Verte that gathers île Cazeau, île du Nord and île Verte ; île Pâté and its eponymous fort.

Fort Pâté, in the middle of the Gironde estuary, with Blaye’s citadel on the right bank and Fort Médoc in Cussac-Fort-Médoc on the left bank are known as « Verrou Vauban », a system designed to protect the city of Bordeaux.  This military « triptych » is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

You’re in for many other discoveries such as carrelets, and surprises as well with the natural phenomenon known as « mascaret » - a long wave starting in the estuary that goes inland and attracts all surfing amateurs at every equinox, up to Vayres and Saint-Pardon harbours, near Libourne.

Not to mention the area’s absolute must-see spot, Cordouan lighthouse, the « king of lighthouses » at the mouth of the estuary.

The Gironde estuary ‘s right bank: from Blaye’s citadel to Royan and the côte de beauté in Charente-Maritime – “coast of beauty”.

Why wouldn’t you spend a whole week on the 2 banks of the estuary? Take the ferry and cross the estuary to the right bank in Blaye on the way to Charente-Maritime. Royan, Meschers sur Gironde, Port Maubert, Port de Vitrezay, Port des Callonges or Blaye harbours will all invite you to discover the river and its heritage. Why not accomplish that sailing, paddling or even canoeing?

Our campsites near Royan, Les Mathes, Arces sur Gironde or Meschers can accommodate you in a chalet, mobile home or camping pitch for your motor home or tent.

Discover the many riches of the Gironde estuary ‘s right bank: marshes and aviaries (Pôle Nature de Vitrezay), prehistorical sites (Le Fâ in Barzan, Régulus caves near Meschers), Gallo-Roman heritage and Saintonge’s Romanesque art (Gallo-Roman mansion in Plassac, Sainte-Radegonde church in Talmont).
