Sea resort St Gilles Croix de Vie is also famous for its important fishing harbour – around 100 active fishermen currently. It has been awarded a « Site Remarquable du Goût » label (remarkable food site) for the first time in France in 1998 for its sardines, a true local landmark.

Shrimps, salt and Brem wines labelled « AOC Fiefs Vendéens » since 2011 are other landmarks of the local gastronomy.
« Port la Vie », the 1,100 spot marina is perfectly integrated to the city thanks to a large pier that protects it from the ocean. It faces Île d’Yeu, « pearl of the Atlantic », which is absolutely mandatory sailing from St Gilles Croix de Vie April to October.
Finally, visit old Saint Gilles, Torterue street, the area named « la petite île » (little island) also named « quartier du Maroc » (Morocco neighbourhood), the « Maison du Pêcheur » museum (fisherman's house) and Tour Joséphine, oldest lighthouse in the harbour.
